(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - First baseman Xavier Fernández continued his remarkable offensive stretch, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of the six-game series against the Memphis Redbirds by a score of 7-5 on Sunday afternoon from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. With the loss, the two teams split the series, 3-3.

Fernández extended his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The home run was his fourth of the season and his hitting streak is the longest by a Knights player this year. He finished Sunday's game by going 2-for-5 with the home run and two RBI. He's hitting .408 for Charlotte in 20 games played since being promoted from Double-A Birmingham.

Other offensive leaders for the Knights on Sunday included Tyler Naquin (3-for-4), Zach Remillard (2-for-4 with two runs scored) and Víctor Reyes (2-for-5 with two RBI). In all, the Knights tallied five runs on 12 hits in the loss.

RHP Luis Patiño started and was sharp for the Knights in the finale. He allowed just one run on three hits over four innings. Despite the strong effort, the Charlotte bullpen combined to allow six runs over the final five innings of Sunday's game. RHP Deivi García (3-3, 5.58) was charged with the loss after he allowed one run on two hits over one inning pitched.

The Redbirds once again used the long ball en route to a win over the Knights. Juniel Querecuto and Jose Fermín both hit home runs for the Redbirds in the win.

The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before opening a six-game road trip against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins) on Tuesday. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 7:05 p.m. from Jacksonville, FL.
