Iowa Cubs News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Iowa Cubs (70-53) dropped the series to the Indianapolis Indians (59-65) with a 2-1 loss in the finale, Sunday at Victory Field.

In similar fashion to Friday night's 2-1 loss for Iowa, Indianapolis got on the in the second inning. This time, it was a two-run single from Grant Koch to break a scoreless tie and give the Indians an early 2-0 lead.

The runs were unearned as they followed an error, and they were the only two runs Shane Greene would allow. The righty spun 4.0 innings allowing just three hits while walking two and striking out six.

He was matched pitch-for-pitch by Jared Jones, however, who spun 6.0 innings of one-run ball. Iowa's lone run came on one swing of the bat in the fifth inning, when David Bote connected on his 12th home run of the year.

Bote's home run was the only blemish on the day for Jones, as he allowed just two hits and four walks while striking out 10. He was followed by three relievers who combined to throw three near-perfect innings, hitting one batter.

The three combined to strikeout two batters as they closed out the one-run victory, earning a series win over Iowa.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Jared Jones fanned 10 batters over his 6.0 innings pitched, tying the season high for any starter against Iowa this year.

Shane Greene suffered his first loss of the year, moving to 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA through five starts with Iowa.

Matt Mervis and David Bote were the only two players to collect a hit for Iowa today. Bote was also one of four players to reach base via a walk.

Iowa will get the day off tomorrow and travel to take on the Toledo Mud Hens. That six-game series from Fifth Third Field starts on Tuesday, with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 pm CT.
