(Dayton, OH) - The Rapid City Rush stormed out to a 5-0 lead on Thursday night, en route to a 5-2 win over the Dayton Gems at Hara Arena. Leading the Rush were Ryan Menei, who scored a pair of goals in a three-point night, and Colt King who collected four assists in the game. The Rush now head to Indiana to take on the Evansville IceMen for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday.

In the early going, it was the Gems controlling the flow, spending six of the opening nine minutes on the powerplay. The Rush penalty kill was up to the task as Rapid City weathered the storm and eventually broke through on Gems goaltender Jeff Jakaitis. The first tally came at the 12:17 mark when Ryan Menei slid a pass to the left circle and Josh Beaulieu snapped a shot home for his second of the year. It was then Menei's turn to light the lamp, doing so on a broken play at the 14:37 mark, doubling the Rush lead. Menei struck again with four seconds left in the period while on the powerplay, burying a centering pass from Colt King, making it 3-0 after 20 minutes.

Rapid City extended the lead to four with a second powerplay goal near the midway point of the middle frame. Good puck movement led to Les Reaney sliding a pass back door to Scott Kalinchuk who slammed home his second of the season.

Jay Birnie potted Rapid City's fifth goal of the game halfway through the third period, a play set up by Colt King and Brendon Hodge. With 4:23 left in regulation, Erik Boisvert spoiled Danny Battochio's shutout bid, firing home a one-timer while on the man-advantage. Finally, Mike Vaskivuo picked up a goal from the doorstep for the game's final goal.

Rapid City ended the night 2-for-7 on the powerplay, netting multiple powerplay goals for the first time since November 16th.

Danny Battochio made 23 saves for his ninth win of the season.

The Rush take on the Evansville IceMen tomorrow at 5:35pm MST. The game will be carried live on 100.3 the FOX,
