Allen Americans News Release

ALLEN, Texas- The Allen Americans and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees will do battle Friday night for the first time this season. The two clubs will face off at 7:30 PM inside State Farm arena in Hidalgo, Texas. The Americans enter the game a league best 11-2-0 on the road.

Sitting in second place in the Berry Conference, the Americans (16-4-1) will play Friday night with several notable players missing from their lineup; including the only two goaltenders who have seen time between the pipes this season.

With Chris Whitley on IR, and Adrien LeMay recently called up to Texas (AHL), the Americans will give the nod to recently acquired veteran goaltender Scott Campbell.

The veteran backstop most recently played with the Toledo Walleye (ECHL), compiling a 3-4-2 record for 2010-11, alongside a solid 2.72 goals against average. No stranger to the CHL, Campbell spent 2009-10 in Wichita with the Thunder.

"Scott was in a real difficult situation last year in Wichita, and we think that with the structure and support we have here, he will really be able to shine," Head Coach and General Manager Dwight Mullins said.

The Americans will also be without Dave Bonk, who was called up Thursday by the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL.

Without Bonk, Jarret Lukin, Liam Huculak, David Simoes or Mitch McColm available, the Americans made another move to acquire Defenseman Scott Langdon. A hard-nosed blueliner who can also contribute offensively, Langdon, 25, registered 23 points and 120 penalty minutes in 2009-10 with the Reading Royals (ECHL).

"He can skate, he's physical and big, and he is a puck moving defenseman," Mullins said. "He's a guy that we feel can add some depth to our back end."

Mullins said that the new players in the lineup will have a chance to make an impact immediately.

"We feel like this is a great opportunity for some of these guys to step up and really solidify where they fit within our group," Mullins said.

Following a solid start, the Killer Bees (8-11-2) are reeling a bit, and currently stand on the outside of the playoff picture in the berry Conference.

The Bees do pack some punch however, with 8 skaters in double-figure points for the season. Tomas Klempa(9+1322) leads the teal and yellow in points, while Darcy Campbell(8+1321) leads the CHL in defenseman scoring.

After the game, the Americans will head back to North Texas where they will enjoy being off until hosting the Texas Brahmas on Friday, December 17th.
