Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs overcame a 2-0 deficit for the fourth time this season in a 5-3 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings Friday night at the CenturyTel Center. Five goals in the final 22 minutes of play helped the Mudbugs extend their home winning streak to five games and improve their overall record to 18-6 this season.

Joe Blaznek led the way for the ‚¬ËœBugs with a goal and two assists as they beat Mississippi for a fourth time in five tries this year. Travis Clayton and Shane Hart each had a goal and an assist, while Steven Crampton and David Rutherford each contributed two helpers as well in the win. Bossier-Shreveport owned the special teams once again with two powerplay goals on six opportunities and a 3-for-3 night on the penalty kill.

The Mudbugs held a 12-11 shot advantage after the opening period, but it was Mississippi who took a 2-0 lead into the locker room after one. Matt Miller scored on a shorthanded breakaway at 10:10 and then Chris Richards deflected in a shot by Matt Summers at 18:03 to put the visitors up by a pair heading into the second.

Despite two powerplays for the ‚¬ËœBugs and one for the ‚¬ËœKings in the middle frame, the teams combined for just 11 total shots and the score remained the same until late in the period. But with 2:12 left in the second, Shane Hart skated over the Mississippi blueline and ripped a long slapshot off the post and into the net to get the Mudbugs on the board at 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Bossier-Shreveport came out firing in the third period, tying the game on Travis Clayton's beautiful tip-in of a Joe Blaznek shot at 8:38. Less than two minutes later, Jeff Kyrzakos scored during another man-advantage to put the ‚¬ËœBugs ahead for the first time at 3-2.

Blaznek then extended the lead to 4-2 at 13:17, getting a pass from David Rutherford in the low circle and blasting a slapshot by Alexander Pechurskiy for his fourth goal in the past four games. Dave Pszenyczny made it 5-2 after Steven Crampton's pass left him alone in front to deke a diving Pechurskiy and bury his first goal of the season. Patrik Levesque scored unassisted at 17:22, but that was as close as the RiverKings would get in the 5-3 decision.

Among Brian Foster's 21 saves were a number of good scoring chances as the rookie improved to 8-3-0 for the season. Alexander Pechurskiy (5-4-0) made 27 saves as Bossier-Shreveport outshot Mississippi 32-24 in the contest.

Rivalry weekend continues tomorrow night as the Mudbugs host the Texas Brahmas at 7:05, presented by SB Magazine. Don't forget to bring a new stuffed toy with you to the game to throw on the ice for our "teddy bear toss" when the ‚¬ËœBugs score. The toys will then be donated to Toys for Tots and be distributed to local children this holiday season.
