Killer Bees Drop Friday Night Affair to Allen, 4-2
December 10, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (8-12-2) played tough against the Allen Americans (17-4-1) but the Americans showed why they are one of the top teams in the league with a 4-2 victory. Zak McClellan and Sean Muncy both scored third period goals but the Bees struggled to beat Americans netminder Scott Campbell who made 38 saves.
Allen raced out to a 1-0 lead just 23 seconds into the game with a fluky goal to start the game. Judd Blackwater tried to center a pass that took a deflection and landed on the back of the net. As the puck rolled over the post it landed on the stick of Bruce Graham who put it past Killer Bees goalie Juliano Pagliero.
The Americans extended their lead to two goals in the second period when David Strathman scored his fifth goal of the season from inside the two faceoff circles. Strathman was fed the puck by Kip Brennan and walked in for the shot.
Into the third period the Bees would continue to try and solve the Scott Campbell puzzle. The Bees were able to cut the lead in half when Zak McClellan scored his fifth goal of the season off a Darcy Campbell shot. Scott Campbell made the initial save but McClellan put away the loose puck.
Allen would increase their lead back to two goals just moments later with a Colton Yellow Horn breakaway. Pagliero tried to dive out and deflect the puck but Yellow Horn made a move at the top of the crease and slid the puck into the empty net.
The Killer Bees would cut the lead to one less than a minute later when Sean Muncy struck at 5:29 of the third period. Aaron Lee picked up the assist on the quick Killer Bees strike.
As the Bees put on pressure for the tying strike Nino Musitelli gave the Americans a two-goal lead once again and putting the game out of reach for the Bees.
The Bees power-play was held scoreless (0-5) after scoring an extra-attacker goal in five straight games. The Bees penalty kill continued to be hot holding Allen to 0-4.
The Killer Bees play host to the Arizona Sundogs Saturday evening at the State Farm Arena. Tickets are available by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825) or visiting killerbeehockey.com.
