Mudbugs' Run Downs Riverkings

BOSSIER CITY, LA --- Bossier-Shreveport reeled off five unanswered goals in claiming a 5-3 win over the Mississippi RiverKings in Central Hockey League action Friday, December 10th at Bossier City, Louisiana.

Mississippi got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. The first goal came shorthanded and came from Matt Miller, whose unassisted effort beat Bossier-Shreveport goaltender Kevin Foster at 10:10 for a 1-0 lead.

The second goal came off the stick of Chris Richards, whose deflection of a shot from Matt Summers netted Richards his eighth goal of the year with less than two minutes left in the period. Jeff Christian also assisted on the goal, which gave the RiverKings the 2-0 first intermission lead.

Bossier-Shreveport cut the margin in half in the second period when Shane Hart scored with 2:12 remaining in the frame. Mississippi still led the game 2-1 going into the third period of play.

That began a run of five straight goals for the Mudbugs in claiming the victory. Travis Clayton and Shawn Limpright scored power play goals, with Limpright's goal becoming the game-winner half-way through the final period. Joe Blaznek and David Pszenyczny added to the Mudbugs' lead before Patrik Levesque finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal at 17:22 for the RiverKings.

Bossier-Shreveport out shot the RiverKings 32-24 for the game. Alexander Pechurskiy (5-4-0) took the loss for Mississippi with a 27-save effort, while Brian Foster (8-3-0) stopped 21 of 24 RiverKings shots on goal for the win for Bossier-Shreveport.

With the loss, the RiverKings fell to 10-11-1 for the season, while the Mudbugs raised their record to 18-6-0 for the year.

Saturday is the annual RiverKings Teddy Bear Toss night, when the team plays the Dayton Gems at 7:05 PM at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. Fans are encouraged to bring new teddy bears or other stuffed animals and toss them on the ice when the RiverKings score their first goal. All donated bears/stuffed animals will be collected and donated to the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program.

Entergy's The Power To Care program is the night's non-profit MVP and fans can help in funding the energy bill payment assistance program through your local Entergy office or on the Entergy web site .

The game is also Ticket Redemption Night for season ticket holders and there will be a post-game skate on the ice after the contest is completed.

Sunday, fans are invited to join the RiverKings at the RiverKings Fan Club Christmas party. Hours of this event are from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Kooky Canuck in downtown Memphis, just across the street from the Peabody Hotel. The $20/person charge covers food and refreshment (non-alcoholic) as fans can join the players and coach Kevin Kaminski in celebrating the Christmas season. Tuesday, December 14th, members of the RiverKings will be on hand for a Christmas "Meet and Greet" at Pecan Grove Apartments in Walls. The complex is located at 7320 State Highway 161 North, north of Goodman Road in Walls. Hours for the Meet and Greet are from 6-8 PM. Also that day, the RiverKings will be involved in a RadioThon for Toys For Tots on the team's flagship station, Sports 56, WHBQ-AM. The RadioThon will take place during the entire day, from 6 AM to 6 PM from Humdinger's Restaurant, at Poplar and Massey in Memphis. The RiverKings' portion of the event will be during the Sportsbar afternoon program during the 3:00 PM hour of the show. Team members will make an appearance on the program and help in raising support for the Toys For Tots program.
