Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) authored six extra-base hits behind Kyle Davies en route to an 11-5 thrashing of the Rochester Red Wings on Saturday night at PNC Field. The win gives the RailRiders (72-55) the series win and a 6.5 game lead over the Red Wings (66-62) with 17 games left to play.
Davies (9-7) battled through 6.1 innings, surrendering four runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Caleb Cotham and Andrew Bailey combined for the final 2.2 innings to close out the victory. Michael Bowden (9-4) shouldered the loss for the Red Wings after allowing seven runs, five earned, on eight hits over 5.2 innings.
Aaron Judge finished the night 3-for-3, a triple shy of the cycle. He reached safely in all five plate appearances thanks to a pair of walks.
The Red Wings posted single tallies in the second, third and fourth to build a 3-1 advantage. The RailRiders scored their first run on a Rob Refsnyder single. Austin Romine tied the score in the fourth by bringing around Aaron Judge and Cole Figueroa on a double off the right field wall.
SWB poured on more steam from there, bringing eight batters to the plate in the sixth and scoring four more. Kyle Roller put the RailRiders up for the first time at 4-3 with a single. Ben Gamel followed with a run-producing hit and Refsnyder championed the frame with a two-run single down the third base line.
Judge continued his big night with a thunderous home run in the seventh inning that bounced off stadium signage well above the pedestrian bridge beyond left. The shot was his eighth with SWB and 20th of the year.
Gary Sanchez got in on the act by belting a three-run bomb into the visitors' bullpen beyond left in the eighth inning.
The RailRiders eye a series sweep of the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins) as the clubs conclude their three-game set at PNC Field on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Right-hander Kyle Haynes (1-1, 6.41) will oppose left-hander Taylor Rogers (9-10, 3.85). The RailRiders will host "Mariano Rivera Day" on Thursday, September 3rd, against the Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) with an appearance by the Yankees' legendary closer himself.
