RHP Alec Asher tossed seven shutout innings as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (56-71) blanked the Pawtucket Red Sox (49-79) by a score of 2-0 on Saturday night at McCoy Stadium.
Asher (2-0) gave up five hits to go along with three strikeouts in his 7.0 IP.
RHP Dalier Hinojosa (1.0 IP) and RHP Dustin McGowan (1.0 IP, H) each tossed a scoreless frame in relief for Lehigh Valley.
McGowan got the final three outs to pick up his 11th save of the season.
The Pigs scored their only runs of the night with a pair in the seventh to open up a 2-0 lead. Brian Bogusevic (2-4, SB, R) led off with a single, moved to third on a single from Erik Kratz and came home on Russ Canzler's RBI single. Kratz (1-4, 2B, R) later scored when Tommy Joseph grounded into a 5-4-3 double play.
PawSox starter Rich Hill (3-3) gave up two runs on five hits while fanning five over seven innings of work.
Pawtucket had two on with nobody out in the fifth and runners at the corners with one away in the sixth, but Asher was able to work his way out of each jam.
In the afore-mentioned fifth with two on and nobody out, Pigs RF Tyler Henson raced to the warning track and made a Willie Mays style over the shoulder catch to rob Garin Cecchini and keep the game scoreless.
The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. as IronPigs RHP Severino Gonzalez (2-5, 4.46) will be on the bump against Red Sox RHP William Cuevas (1-2, 2.50).
