Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the second game three-game series at Coca-Cola Field. (7:05 p.m.). The Herd won in the series opener last night, 9-0, to improve to 4-1 in its last five home games. The Bisons have just nine home games left this season with a seven-game homestand set for August 27-September 2.
Playoff Picture
The Bisons are 6.5 games back of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for 1st place in the IL North and 7.0 games back of Columbus for the lone IL Wild Card spot. Buffalo has just five games left against teams with a winning record, all against the RailRiders (Aug. 29-31, Sept. 3-4).
vs. the Chiefs
The Bisons are 12-5 against the Chiefs this season. It's the third time in the last four seasons Buffalo has posted double-digit wins against Syracuse. Buffalo has not won 13 games against one opponent in a single season since going 13-3 against the SkyChiefs in 2002.
Todd Redmond
RHP TODD REDMOND makes his seventh start and 20th appearance for the Bisons tonight. The veteran is coming off his best outing of the season, defeating Syracuse last Sunday with six innings of one-run baseball. Redmond is 1-2 with a 4.78 ERA as a starter this season.
Rookies
The Bisons have two strong candidates for IL Rookie of the Year. RHP SCOTT COPELAND became the Bisons first 10-game winner since 2010 last night and is now 10-4 with the IL's 2nd-lowers ERA (2.43). INF ANDY BURNS had three hits last night and is now 5th in the IL with a .298 average and 8th with 123 hits and a .356 on-base pct.
Stampede
The Bisons pounded out 18 hits last night with seven different Herd batters collecting multi-hit performances. Buffalo is now 2nd in the IL in average (.263). The teams +77 run differential is also 2nd in the IL behind only Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (+82).
Bisons Bits
The Bisons have been involved in 28 shutouts (12-16), four more than any other IL club and 22% of their 127 games this year...C JORGE SAEZ has been promoted from Dunedin (A) where he threw out 36% of would-be basestealers (33/91).
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (67-55) are a half-game back of the Yankees in the AL East after last night's 9-2 win over the Angels. David Price improved to 12-4 with nine strikeouts over eight innings and Ben Revere had four hits and two runs scored. Toronto takes on the Angels again tonight at 9:05 p.m.
