Bisons Go Quiet in 3-1 Loss
August 22, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
Saturday night brought a different atmosphere at Coca-Cola Field for the Bisons, as their bats and offense were quiet. The Herd lost to the Chiefs 3-1 in front of a packed house.
The Bisons had 18 hits and nine runs on Friday night when they dominated Syracuse. Saturday's game was a different story as the Herd only contributed six hits in the loss. "We just caught a flat game at a time in the season when we didn't need it," manager Gary Allenson said. "We didn't have many opportunities offensively. Just the bats let us down tonight. We went from the penthouse to the outhouse in 24 hours." Allenson has stated before that for the team to make a run for the postseason, they have to get momentum built and catch up to the leaders.
Syracuse struck first in the fifth, taking a 1-0 lead on an unearned run. Andy Burns misplayed a ground ball putting runners on the corners. With two outs, Emmanuel Burris hit an RBI single in the Herd's costly mistake. Syracuse would bring real damage to the scoreboard in the sixth inning when Matt Skole crushed a two-run homer to Bully Hill in right field, extending the Chiefs lead to 3-0.
The Herd avoided the shutout late in the eighth inning, scoring Buffalo's only run. A lead off single from Jon Berti and walk drawn by Jonathan Diaz started off the inning. After a sacrifice ground out from Dalton Pompey to advance the runners, Munenori Kawasaki hit a ground out to short to score Berti from third.
Pitcher Drew Hutchison will start for the Bisons on Sunday as the Herd hosts the Syracuse Chiefs at Coca-Cola Field at 1:05. This will be the righty's first start since being optioned by the Blue Jays on Monday.
