Mud Hens Split Double-Header in Norfolk
August 22, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Saturday night the Mud Hens took on the Norfolk Tides in a double-header at Harbor Park. After a long night at the ballpark, the Mud Hens earned a split by winning the first game 6-4, and losing the second game 2-1. Timely runs lifted Toledo over Norfolk in the first contest of the night, but despite solid pitching in game two, the Hens were only able to scratch across one run.
The Mud Hens jumped on the Tides in the first inning of game one. Alexi Casilla promptly doubled to lead off the game, and then with two outs, Jefry Marte doubled him home to give Toledo a 1-0 lead. After getting another run in the third inning, Norfolk mounted a comeback in the bottom half of the inning. The Hens made two errors that aided the Tides, and Norfolk was able to take a 4-2 lead after three.
In the sixth inning, it was the Hens' turn to come back. With two outs, Trayvon Robinson walked, and then Miguel Gonzalez reached base thanks to getting hit by a pitch. Casilla followed with an RBI triple, tying the game at four. In the seventh inning, Mike Hessman was intentionally walked with one out. Daniel Fields made the Tides pay by smacking an RBI double to right field, giving the Hens a 5-4 lead. Toledo padded their lead with a run scoring triple courtesy of Josh Wilson. After allowing two earned runs in six innings, Tim Melville handed the ball off to Jose Valdez, who slammed the door.
The Hens weren't as fortunate in the second game of the double-header. Josh Zeid made a spot start on the mound, and pitched well in his four innings of work. Zeid's only blemish of the night came in the third inning when he allowed a two-run homer to Julio Borbon. The Mud Hens would answer back with a run of their own in the fourth inning, but that's all they would get en route to their game two loss.
The Mud Hens will play the Tides on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. before heading back to Fifth Third Field for a three game series against the Columbus Clippers. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
