Skole's Homer Lifts Chiefs over Bisons

Buffalo, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bisons, 3-1, Saturday night at Coca-Cola Field. Matt Skole hit a two-run homer and Bruce Billings hurled six shutout innings to pick up the win.

Syracuse (57-71) started the scoring in the fifth inning. Caleb Ramsey extended his hitting streak to five games with a one-out single. He stole second base, and with two outs, Jose Lozada reached on an error by first baseman Andy Burns to extend the inning. Emmanuel Burriss followed with an RBI single to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

Skole extended the lead in the sixth. His fifth home run of the season scored Jason Martinson, who had singled, to push the Chiefs lead to 3-0.

Buffalo (65-63) did get on the board in the eighth. Jon Berti led off with a single, moved to second on a walk, to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a groundout by Munenori Kawasaki to cut the deficit to 3-1. But Rafael Martin retired the Bisons in the ninth to seal the win with his 10th save.

Syracuse tries for a series win in the rubber game of the series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Paolo Espino is slated to start for the Chiefs opposite Drew Hutchinson for the Bisons.
