Jonathan Sigalet Named Bruins' 2005-06 Man of the Year

April 5, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

The Providence Bruins are proud to announce that defenseman Jonathan Sigalet has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Providence community during the 2005-06 season.

Starting with the first week of training camp, when a local Rhode Island company was holding a Hurricane Katrina fundraiser, Jonathan volunteered his time to attend. Throughout the season P-Bruins players visited the Hasbro Children's Hospital every Tuesday and Siaglet attended at least once or twice a month. The same held true for when there were visits to schools and hockey practices.

On top of this, Sigalet has served as an ambassador for the MS LifeLines program and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Two years ago, Jonathan's brother and current teammate Jordan Sigalet was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Jonathan has served as a support system for his brother and has given up his time to attend MS functions throughout the season.

In recognition of his efforts, Sigalet will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Bruins home game.

Sigalet is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2005-06 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
