
Shannon Named to 2005-2006 AHL All-Rookie Team

PORTLAND, ME- Today the American Hockey League announced the 2005-06 AHL All-Rookie Team, as voted by AHL players and media in each of the league's 27 member cities. Pirates forward Ryan Shannon was selected as one of the six players who earned the honor. The team consists of three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender.
In his first pro season out of Boston College, Ryan Shannon, 23, has been one of the offensive stars for Portland in 2005-06. Shannon is currently second in the AHL's rookie scoring race with 80 points (24 goals, 56 assists) and currently ranks 9th among AHL scoring leaders. In addition, Shannon ranks first among AHL rookies in assists (56) and plus/minus (+26), which is also second in the entire league. The Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month for October, from Darien, Conn., began his rookie season with an eight-game scoring streak, then reeled off a nine-gamer in January and a 10-game run from February 17th to March 10th.
Other members of the AHL All-Rookie Team include: Forward, Patrick O'Sullivan (Houston Aeros); Forward, Martin St. Pierre (Norfolk Admirals); Defenseman, Daniel Girardi (Hartford Wolf Pack); Defenseman, Mike Green (Hershey Bears) and goalie Jimmy Howard (Grand Rapids Griffins). Each All-Rookie Team member will receive a custom designed crystal award in recognition of his selection to the 2005-06 AHL All-Rookie Team.

Dumont (1999), Robert Esche (1999), Dan Boyle (1999), Cory Sarich (1999), Dmitri Kalinin (2000), Rico Fata (2000), Jonathan Cheechoo (2001), Michael Leighton (2002), Barret Jackman (2002), Jason Spezza (2003), Michel Ouellet (2004), Cam Ward (2005), Chris Campoli (2005), Thomas Vanek (2005), Rene Bourque (2005) and Brandon Bochenski (2005).
The Pirates return to action on Friday, April 7th on the road against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m. The Pirates can clinch their first-ever Atlantic Division title on Friday with a win against the Wolf Pack. Fans can watch the game live on the internet at www.portlandpirates.com or listen to the game on the U.S. Cellular, Big Jab, Pirates Radio Network on WLOB 1310AM, 1220AM ESPN Radio, WTME 780AM and WKTQ 1450AM.
The Pirates next home game is on Saturday, April 8th at 7:05 p.m. against the Lowell Lock Monsters. It will be Time Warner Cable Night with the Pirates and AAA Member Appreciation Night. Fans will receive a Portland Pirates/Time Warner Digital Phone mini-stick. One lucky fan will also win a 30" HDTV courtesy of Time Warner Cable. Time Warner Cable invites you to meet Boston Bruins legend and member of NESN's Bruins Broadcast Team, Don Sweeney, who will be at the game to meet fans and sign autographs.
