Albany River Rats News Release
Albany N.Y. - The Albany River Rats announced today that left center Chris Minard and defenseman Eric Lundberg have been returned to their respective ECHL clubs, while goaltender Frank Doyle has been recalled under emergency conditions by the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League.
Minard, 24, recorded seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in 37 games with the River Rats this season. He has been returned to the Alaska Aces of the ECHL where he was tied for the league lead with 25 goals and tied for fourth overall with 38 points in 29 games prior to his recall in January. He led the ECHL with 49 goals, including 15 on the power play skating alongside current New Jersey Devils center Scott Gomez with the Aces during the 2004-05 season.
Lundberg, 22, has recorded two assists with a minus five rating in 25 games with the River Rats this season. He has been reassigned to the Augusta Lynx of the ECHL where he totaled three goals and seven assists for 10 points with a plus one mark in 41 games earlier in the 2005-06 campaign. He also went scoreless with five shots on goal in two match-ups with the Syracuse Crunch this year. The Vernon, Connecticut native attended Providence College and was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche with their third choice (94th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Doyle, 25, shows a 20-31-3 record with a 3.10 goals against average and a .909 save percentage in a team-high 55 games during the 2005-06 campaign. He set the River Rats franchise record for saves in a season back on March 25, 2006 and his 20 wins are the most for an Albany netminder since the 2000-01 campaign. The native of Guelph, Ontario was an ECHL All-Star last year and served as Martin Brodeur's back-up on March 23rd in his first NHL recall.
The Albany River Rats, owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., are in their 13th American Hockey League campaign and currently serve as the primary affiliate of the New Jersey Devils.
