Aeros to sign Irmen to ATO after University of Minnesota RW inks pact with Wild

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed right wing Danny Irmen to a multi-year contact beginning with the 2006-07 season. He will sign an Amateur Tryout contract with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL) to finish the rest of this season.

Irmen, 21 (9/6/84), collected 38 points (16-22=38) in 30 games during his recently completed junior season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The 6-foot, 190-pound forward added five power play goals, two game-winning tallies and was a +15 this season. Irmen finished third on the team in goals and fourth in scoring despite missing 11 games due to injury and was named WCHA Player of the Week twice.

The Fargo, North Dakota-native tied for the team lead with 24 goals and finished second in scoring with 43 points in 2004-05 during his sophomore season as the Gophers advanced to the Frozen Four. Irmen registered 54 goals and 49 assists for 103 points in 118 career WCHA contests with Minnesota.

He led the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League (USHL) to the 2003 Clark Cup Championship scoring 55 points in 45 regular season games (21-34=55) and was named the Playoff MVP collecting 14 points (8-6=14) in 10 postseason contests.

Irmen was originally selected by Minnesota in the third round (78th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
