HARTFORD, April 5, 2006: The Hartford Wolf Pack are proud to announce that center Alexandre Giroux has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Hartford community during the 2005-06 season.

Giroux, who currently leads the Pack in goals (35), also leads the team when it comes to community relations efforts. The center, who made his NHL debut on March 25th with the Rangers, was consistently one of the first to arrive and take part in the Wolf Pack Community Foundation and team events throughout the season, including: the Golf Tournament to benefit Children's Home of Cromwell, the Bowl-A-Thon to benefit CT Special Olympics, the Wolf Pack Booster Club Party, a Christmas Party at CT Children's Medical Center, Wolf Pack Kids Club Day, the Season Ticket Holder Party and the annual "Tip-A-Player" charitable dinner & sports carnival to benefit Gaylord Hospital. Giroux was always energized and genuinely involved in these events, going out of his way to interact with the kids, season ticket holders, booster club members and fans.

Giroux also gave back throughout the season, voluntarily donating his time to visit children at the CT Children's Medical Center with other teammates and appearing in a documentary about the facility with team captain Craig Weller. Giroux demonstrated his compassionate and giving nature when he approached the Wolf Pack Foundation leading up to the 2005 holiday season and requested that they find and sponsor two local needy families. Giroux volunteered to handle making the arrangements with his teammates and his thoughtfulness and generosity ensured that the local families had a truly wonderful holiday.

In recognition of his efforts, Giroux will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Wolf Pack home game.

Giroux is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2005-06 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
