Johnstown 'Fights' For 3-1 Win Over Cyclones
December 5, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Johnstown Chiefs and Cincinnati Cyclones combined for four fights, six misconduct penalties and 134 penalty minutes on Friday night. The Chiefs also recorded the most important numbers of the night in a 3-1. The defeat ended Cincinnati's five game win streak.
Johnstown opened the scoring when defenseman Jon Landry stepped into the high slot and fired his seventh goal of the season just 39 seconds into the contest. Cincinnati would respond with a power play goal at 10:38 when Barret Ehgoetz netted his sixth goal of the campaign from Thomas Beauregard and Olivier Latendresse. The tying goal came when Latendresse picked up a puck on the right halfwall and sent the puck into the slot left side for Beauregard, who located Ehgoetz alone at the right post for the score. Cincinnati outshot Johnstown, 13-7, in the opening frame.
The second period featured plenty of fireworks as three simultaneous fights at 13:24 highlighted play. Cincinnati forward Jimmy Kilpatrick, defenseman T.J. McElroy and goaltender Martin Houle all were involved in bouts. The only goal of the period came with 12.1 seconds remaining after a questionable icing call stopped play and forced a faceoff deep in the Cincinnati end. Rayn Del Monte capitalized on the opportunity, collecting his fourth goal of the season. The Cyclones outshot the Chiefs, 14-6, in the stanza.
Former Cyclone defenseman Kyle Bushee netted his second of the season at 17:32 to close out the scoring in the 3-1 triumph for Johnstown. Ian Kesserich took the win, stopping nine shots. Kyle Gajewski took the defeat stopping twelve shots.
The Cyclones are 10-8-3 on the season, while Johnstown is 16-5-1. The Cyclones play two more games at U.S. Bank Arena against Johnstown on Saturday (December 6) and next Monday (December 8), before welcoming in Charlotte on Tuesday, December 9. Faceoff for all of those games is at 7:30pm.
