Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Cincinnati, Oh. - The Johnstown Chiefs ended the Cincinnati Cyclone's five-game winning streak with a 3-1 win on Friday night. It was the Chiefs' first win in Cincinnati since March of 2007.

Johnstown came out of the gate firing and beat Martin Houle with its second shot of the game. Trevor Hendrikx blasted one from the left point and created a rebound chance. Andrew Sarauer sent it right back to Hendrikx who fed Jon Landry on the far point. Landry skated to the high slot and wired a slap shot past Houle 39 seconds into the game for his seventh goal of the year. Cincinnati came back with a power play goal by Barret Ehgoetz at 10:38, and the first period ended tied at one.

The second period brought a taste of old-time hockey as a line brawl broke out after Conrad Martin checked Petr Pohl down after a whistle. Alex Penner worked over Martin, while Hendrikx took on Jimmy Kilpatrick. Even the goalies got into the act as Kris Mayotte and Houle dropped the gloves and met at center ice. After everything got sorted out the score was still tied at one with Ian Keserich and Kyle Gajewski replacing Mayotte and Houle respectively.

It looked like the second would end with the score tied, but Cincinnati iced the puck as time was winding down. Ryan Del Monte won the offensive zone face off, and was set up in front by Randy Rowe and Mike Bartlett. Del Monte let loose a wicked one-timer that beat Gajewski high to the glove side.

Johnstown's defense sparkled in the third period as it held the high-powered Cyclone's offense to just five shots. Keserich turned each one aside, and Kyle Bushee gave Johnstown an insurance goal to take some pressure off. Landry stole a pass at the Johnstown blue line and carried all the way to the side of the Cincinnati net. Bushee, coming off of the far wall, took Landry's feed and one-timed it by Gajewski to seal the win.

Keserich made 11 saves on 11 shots in earning the victory in relief of Mayotte who turned aside 20 in just over a period-and-a-half. Johnstown's power play ended the night 0-for-5.
