Reading, PA - Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jason Nobili of the Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced that he has hired Larry Courville as his assistant coach. Courville will begin his duties with the team effective immediately.

"For some time, I have been talking with Larry about the possibility of becoming my assistant," Nobili stated. "He has shown to me a level of commitment, understanding and experience that I believe will have an immediate positive impact on our club. I look forward to working with him as we continue to turn our team in the proper direction."

"I am ready to bring whatever insight, time, attention and energy to Coach Nobili and the Royals that I can in order to help our team," Courville stated. "I hope that my experience in hockey, my desire to help, my commitment to excellence, and my willingness to learn will make me an effective assistant and an important part of our effort to win hockey games."

Courville (33), who hails from Timmins, Ontario, but resides in the Reading area, played 630 regular season games over twelve pro seasons, the last four of which (2005-08) were spent with the Royals. In 152 games with Reading, Courville scored twenty-four goals, picked up forty assists (sixty-four points) and registered 197 penalty minutes. A third round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in 1995, Courville played thirty-three National Hockey League games with the Canucks over three seasons in the late 1990's. Courville, who served as the Royals' team captain in 2005-06 and was honored with the organization's "Heart Award" at the conclusion of that season, became the first person inducted into the Royals' Reading Eagle Wall of Honor at the Sovereign Center on October 22, 2006, for his contributions to the Royals.

The Royals travel to First Arena in Elmira, New York, to take on the Elmira Jackals tonight (December 5 @ 7:35 pm). Friday's game will be broadcast live on the Royals Radio Network Presented by Transmissions by Arbogast (True Oldies WRAW 1340 am in Reading; and The Ticket WLAN 1390 am in Lancaster), as well as on the internet via webcast hosted by Sportsjuice.com, which can be accessed through the Royals website.
