Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers were defeated 5-2 by the visiting Wheeling Nailers on Friday night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

The first period was controlled by the Bombers, firing 16 shots at Wheeling netminder Curtis Darling. However, it was the Nailers that found the back of the net as Erik Johnson got the puck past the Bombers' Tyler Plante.

In the second the Nailers grew their lead by three more goals at the 6, 11 and 19 minute marks, respectively. Two of the goals came shorthanded. Once again the Bombers outshot Wheeling in the period, and after two frames Dayton had 32 shots to the Nailers 17.

Wheeling continued their pressure in the third, picking up a fifth goal from Andrew Lord. The Bombers finally got on the board in the closing minutes of the third when Jarret Lukin netted his 7th of the season from Dan Riedel and Nino Musitelli. Seconds later, Ben Geelan tallied his first of the year, assisted by Christian Gaudet.

Dayton finished the night 0 for 9 on the power play and 8 of 9 on the penalty kill. Plante was 17 of 22 in the losing effort.

Tomorrow night the Bombers look for revenge against the Nailers at 7:30 p.m. at the Nutter Center. It's the Bombers annual "Teddy Bear Toss" - fans can bring new or gently used stuffed animals to the game and throw them on the ice after the Bombers first goal of the game. All donations will be distributed to Dayton Children's Hospital and local police and fire departments.
