Jackals Break Streak, Win 6-3

Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals did just what needed to be done after suffering their worst loss of the season on Wednesday night. Put together a full 60 minutes of hockey and win. They did just that as they beat the Reading Royals tonight 6-3 at First Arena.

The Jackals got on the board first with an even strength goal from Pierre-Luc Faubert at the 8:24 mark of the first period. Brandon Roach and Benoit Doucet would assist on the play. The Royals then evened the score on a Tyler Doig power play goal at the 15:06 mark of the first.

Finishing the first period tied at 1-1, both clubs turned up the heat in the second. The Royals took the 2-1 lead on a goal from David Nimmo just three minutes seven seconds into the middle frame. Trailing by a goal, the Jackals would hit a switch on put on an offensive display. Chris Korchinski scored his fifth of the year when Bruce Watson assisted at the 4:08 mark. Steve Yetman grabbed his first of the night, 10th of the year at the 10:04 mark. Tyler Donati and Kaleb Betts would assist. The Jackals then made it 4-2 on a goal from Bruce Watson at the 11:52 mark. Chris Korchinski and Mitch O'Keefe assisted. Reading would strike one more time to end the second period. The second power play goal of the night, Doigs third of the year.

Up 4-3 heading into the third the Jackals kept the pressure on. Four minutes 29 seconds into the final frame Steve Yetman would score his second goal of the night, a boomer that snuck past Danny Taylor. Again Mitch O'Keefe and Joe Grimaldi would assist. Pierre-Luc Faubert would tally his second of the evening at the 13:34 mark to put the icing on the cake. Ryan Gibbons and Benoit Doucet assisted on the play.

Jackals goaltender Mitch O'Keefe ended the evening with 26 saves and two assists. Danny Taylor turned aside 21 of 27 shots on the evening. With the win the Jackals improve to 10-7-0-2 for 22 points, while the Royals sink to 5-16-0-1 on the season for 11 points.

NEXT UP: The Jackals continue their four games in five nights schedule when they host the Trenton Devils tomorrow night at First Arena. The first 1,500 fans through the First Arena doors will receive a Jackals Christmas CD, bring your teddy bears and toss them onto the ice after the Jackals score their first goal. Face off is set for 7:35 p.m. The busy week ends on Sunday with a trip to Reading to take on the Royals at 5:05 p.m.
