Erie SeaWolves News Release
The 'Wolves fell behind early on Monday night to the Akron RubberDucks and never rebounded as they dropped the series opener 9-1 at Jerry Uht Park.
Akron jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Erie spot starter Nick Avila. Erik Gonzalez doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch with one out. Gonzalez scored on an error making it 1-0 on a ball hit by Adam Abraham. Bryan Lahair and Anthony Gallas followed with back-to-back singles, loading the bases for Tony Wolters. Wolters lifted a sacrifice fly to center, plating Abraham for a 2-0 lead. Alex Lavisky followed with a base hit and Jordan Smith belted a three-run home run making it 6-0 after a half inning.
Jamie Johnson led off the Erie first inning and connected on a solo home run to right making it 6-1. The solo homer was his fourth of the season, equaling his career-high.
The Ducks added one more run in the fifth, taking a 9-1 lead to wrap up the night's scoring.
Avila (0-4) took the loss allowing eight runs, three earned, on eight hits with a no walks and a strikeout in one-plus inning of work.
