Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators hit two home runs and had 11 hits overall, but fell just short in an 8-6 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Thursday night before 4,367 fans at Metro Bank Park.

Kevin Keyes got things going with an opposite field, two-run home run in the first inning. However, Richmond responded with five runs in the second inning. The Senators clawed back to a 5-5 tie with a sacrifice fly by Drew Vettleson and an RBI single by Cole Leonida in the fourth followed by a run-scoring double play off the bat of Keyes in the fifth. Richmond scored two runs in the seventh and another in the ninth while the Senators managed only a Cutter Dykstra solo home run the rest of the way. Matt Skole singled in the fifth to stretch his consecutive games on-base streak to 26 games.

James Simmons allowed five runs on six hits, all of which came in the second inning, in his four innings of work. Colin Bates received the loss after allowing the two deciding runs to cross in the seventh inning. The righty pitched four innings and struck out two Richmond batters. Neil Holland allowed an earned run in the ninth inning on one hit in the ninth.

The Senators will travel to Altoona tomorrow to start a three-game series with the Curve on Independence Day. Right-hander Brett Brach will take the ball for the Senators against Altoona's Pat Ludwig in a 7:00 p.m start. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
