New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats gave fans extra baseball in a sense on Thursday evening - playing into extra innings before dropping Game 1 by a score of 6-4. New Britain would not get a chance to split as the second game of the doubleheader was ultimately cancelled due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader when the Rock Cats visit Binghamton for a four-game series August 25-28.

Visiting Binghamton wasted no time getting on the board, getting back to back home runs from leadoff hitter RF Kyle Johnson and 2B Dilson Herrera in the top of the first.

The B-Mets made it a 3-0 ballgame in the top of the second, hanging another run on Rock Cats starter RHP Tyler Duffey. CF Brandon Nimmo, who led off the inning with a single out to center, came in on a fielder's choice groundball, although the play ended in error when 3B Stephen Wickens threw too high to second to convert the force out.

New Britain picked up two runs in their half of the second inning to pull within one. SS Tony Thomas's sacrifice fly scored DH Reynaldo Rodriguez, who led off the inning with a blooper to left-center and RF Aaron Hicks scored on a base hit from LF Mike Kvasnicka.

In the bottom of the fourth and a runner on first, Hicks turned on a fastball from B-Mets starter RHP Tyler Pill that just flew past the 16-foot wall in right field to give New Britain their first lead of the game. The longball was his second of the season since being assigned to the Rock Cats by Minnesota back on June 25th.

Binghamton tied up the contest on a lead-off home run from 3B Brian Burgamy, the club's third homer of the day.

B-Mets Johnson's final at-bat ended the same way his first did - a solo home run over the wall in left off of RHP Cole Johnson, this time giving Binghamton the go-ahead run in a 5-4 ballgame. Burgamy followed with a stand-up triple hit to deep center and scored on DH Dustin Lawley's base hit out to center.

Binghamton's Pill worked into the seventh before turning the ball over to the bullpen, allowing four runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out seven. LHP Chase Huchingson and RHP Cody Satterwhite combined in relief, with Satterwhite earning his sixth save of the season.

Duffey battled through six innings, ultimately ending up with a no-decision. The right hander allowed four runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out four. His record holds pat at 3-2. Johnson was tagged with the loss, seeing his record fall to 1-5.
