New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
READING, PA---Cory Aldridge hit a three-run homer and Radhames Liz went six innings en route to his first win for the Fisher Cats in New Hampshire's 7-1 victory over Reading on Wednesday night.
Aldridge, playing in his fourth game since joining the Fisher Cats, went 3-for-4 with a walk. The Fisher Cats opened the scoring in the top of the second inning as Aldridge singled, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a single by Michael Crouse for a 1-0 lead.
New Hampshire (39-45) extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Aldridge hit his first home run as a Fisher Cat, a three-run shot. Mike McDade singled and Andy Burns doubled ahead of the homer, which came off losing pitcher Ryan O'Sullivan (2-5).
Reading (34-47) scored its run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Peter Lavin doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a single by Jake Fox. That would be the only run that winning pitcher Radhames Liz (1-1) would allow in six strong innings. He allowed six hits, but did not walk a batter. He had three strikeouts.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Fisher Cats scored three more runs. Kevin Nolan walked and stole second. He advanced to third on a wild pitch, scoring on a fielders choice by Mike McDade by beating the throw to the plate. Andy Burns followed with a walk and Aldridge singled. Catcher Derrick Chung then ripped a single up-the-middle for his first two RBI since joining the club.
Austin Bibens-Dirkx worked three innings of scoreless relief for New Hampshire, earning his first save of the season.
The series concludes on Thursday night. RHP Casey Lawrence (4-4, 3.10) will make his first start since his near perfect game last Friday for the Fisher Cats. He will face former Fisher Cat Adam Loewen (0-1, 5.40), who is pitching again in the Philadelphia organization. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and at www.nhfishercats.com.
The team returns home on Friday (July 4) to open an eight-game homestand with the Trenton Thunder at 7:05pm. A spectacular Atlas holiday fireworks display will follow the game. Tickets are available at the team box office, by calling (603) 641-2005, and by visiting www.nhfishercats.com.
