
Jensen to Make NHL Debut

WHEELING, WV - Just 44 days removed from his last game as a member of the Wheeling Nailers, Joe Jensen is expected to make his National Hockey League debut this afternoon with the Carolina Hurricanes. Faceoff is scheduled for 1:00pm in New Jersey.
Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled Jensen from Albany of the American Hockey League (AHL). To make room for Jensen on the roster, the Hurricanes placed team captain Rod Brind'Amour on injured reserve.
Jensen, 24, was acquired by the Hurricanes on Jan. 31 from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for David Gove. In nine game with the Nailers this season, he earned seven points (4g, 3a) to up his Nailers career totals to 15 goals and 21 assists (36 points) in 37 games between 2006-08.
In 33 AHL games this season with Albany and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Jensen has totaled two goals, two assists (4 points) and 27 penalty minutes. Jensen (5'11'', 180 lbs.) has also played in nine games with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL this season, earning seven points (4g, 3a). The Plymouth, MN, native is in his second professional season, and has scored eight goals and earned seven assists (15 points) in 59 career AHL games.
Jensen played four years of collegiate hockey at St. Cloud State University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association before turning professional. In 153 career games with the Huskies, Jensen scored 45 goals, earned 55 assists (100 points) and accumulated 100 penalty minutes. The Penguins drafted Jensen in the eighth round, 232nd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
The Wheeling Nailers game tonight against the Dayton Bombers has been rescheduled for March 26 at 7pm in the Nutter Center. The Nailers return to the ice on Friday to begin a six-game homestand against the Elmira Jackals at 7:35pm. It is Faith & Family Night and the first 2,500 fans will receive a Nailers t-shirt.
