Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Trenton, NJ - The Johnstown Chiefs celebrated President's day with their sixth win of the season over the Trenton Devils, winning 4-3 in overtime.
With the early 2:00 PM start, both teams took a while to find their offensive grooves. The Chiefs were unable to generate a shot on either of their first two power plays, and only had one shot on the board inside of the halfway mark of the first.
A pinpoint pass from Greg Gallagher, though, would spring Mike Sgroi on a breakaway, and he fired a shot through Jason Smith's five-hole for a 1-0 Johnstown lead with three minutes left in the first.
More precision passing gave Johnstown a 2-0 lead just 54 seconds later. Rob Drummond fed Ryan Garlock in the high slot from the right wing, and Garlock one-touched a pass to Joey Olson in the right faceoff circle.
In the same way that Johnstown scored two quick goals at the end of the first, Trenton tallied twice 23 seconds apart to begin the second period. Eric Castonguay finish off a play from Joe Rooney and Brad Mills 1:33 in, and then Matt Radoslovich picked up a goal at 1:56 to even things up.
Rooney had two great chances to extend the lead for Trenton on a penalty shot, and on a breakaway, but Ryan Nie foiled him both times.
Jean Desrochers and Thomas Harrison traded goals in the third period to send the game into extra time for the Chiefs for the third straight game.
In overtime the Chiefs were finally able to cash in on the power play before the game headed to a shootout.
With Bill LeClerc in the box for slashing, Rob Drummond tipped in a shot by Tyler Hirsch for the game winner. Ryan Garlock picked up the other assist, giving him two on the night.
Ryan Nie picked up his 18th win on the year by making 32 saves, and the Chiefs power play finished 1-for-6.
Be sure to come out Sunday, February 24, for "70s Night." All fans sporting 70s wear will receive $1.00 off their tickets at the box office, and the best dressed flashback fan will receive a prize from the Chiefs.
