Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons opened a three-game home stand on Monday afternoon, defeating the Stockton Thunder 3-2 in front of 4,589 fans at Save Mart Center. Fresno improves to 28-12-8 on the season with the win.
After a scoreless first period, the teams combined for four goals in the opening 10:09 of the second period.
Stockton opened the scoring at 3:28 as Andy Contois skated alone into the Fresno zone, and beat Jake Moreland with a shot on the far post for his 16th goal of the season.
Fresno answered with a power-play goal at 6:04. Tyler Kindle's shot from the blue line deflected off of a Stockton skate any rolled past goaltender Tim Boron for his eighth of the season.
With the Falcons on another power play at 7:20, it was Stockton scoring a shorthanded goal to take a 2-1 lead. Brandon Schwartz skated into the Falcons' zone, and beat Moreland with a wrist shot from just inside the left-wing circle.
The Falcons again tied the score with their second power-play goal of the period at 10:09. With the puck bouncing around the net area, Brady Leisenring gathered it in on the left-wing side, and banged a shot into the open net for his 17th goal of the year, and extending his goal-scoring streak to four games.
John Morlang put Fresno on top for the first time in the game 5:46 into the third period. Matt O'Dette's shot from the right point was turned aside by Boron, but Morlang picked up the rebound at the hash marks and put a shot past the goaltender off his backhand giving the Falcons a 3-2 lead.
Moreland held the lead from there, turning aside all 14 Thunder shots in the third period, to improve his record on the season to 14-4-4.
