Augusta, GA - The Augusta Lynx had only one game this past week as they completed their three-game road swing against the Florida Everblades. On Tuesday night, the Lynx couldn't manage a win in the rubber match, falling to the Everblades, 5-1. #25 Adrian Veideman had the lone goal for Augusta, and later in the week was recalled to Portland in the AHL. Goaltender #1 Gerald Coleman was outstanding in goal stopping 40 of 45 Everblades shots, but it was simply too much Florida, who evened the season series at 3-3 with the win. The final regular season game between Florida and Augusta this season happens on Friday in Augusta.

The Lynx players donated teddy bears and stuffed animals, and honored the hospitalized veterans. "It's an annual event, and we receive about 500 visitors," said Kim Hoge, the hospital's chief of voluntary services, of the activities, which began Feb. 10 and ended Saturday. "This is a way to get the community involved and to remind them of the sacrifices made by our veterans,"

Goulet, who enters Tuesday's game with 12 goals this season and 88 career goals is only two goals away from tying Jonas Soling's career mark of 90. VEIDEMAN RECALLED TO PORTLAND: Augusta Lynx Head Coach Bob Ferguson announced Thursday that Lynx All-Star defenseman Adrian Veideman was recalled by the Portland Pirates, Augusta's American Hockey League affiliate. This marks the second time this season that Veideman has been recalled by Portland. Veideman, 24, is having a stellar rookie campaign for the Augusta Lynx. The defenseman from Sicamous, British Columbia leads all Lynx defensemen in scoring with 29 points in 44 games played. He is in the top 10 in the ECHL for defensive scoring and ranks second among all rookie defensemen. Veideman recently played in the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game back on January 23rd in Stockton, California, earning an assist for the American Conference team. This marks the second call to the AHL of the season for Veideman. Veideman played in five games with the Pirates from January 12th-19th. His best game with Portland came back on January 13th during a 5-2 road win against the Lowell Devils, in which Veideman scored his first AHL goal and added an assist while being named as the game's first star.
FERGUSON HONORED BY USHL: The USHL celebrated its mid-season the last week of January with the 2008 USHL Prospects/All-Star Game. But something that often gets lost amid the event itself and the accompanying league meetings is the presentation of the USHL Distinguished Service Awards. The awards, not necessarily presented annually, are given to the people that have played an integral role in the creation and growth of the league. Over the years, the league has recognized 11 people, from former league presidents to team owners to coaches. This year, two of the league's most deserving personalities ever received the honor - Bob Ferguson, the winningest coach in USHL history (although that mark will soon be surpassed by not one, but two current USHL coaches) and Scott Brand, the current USHL Director of Hockey Operations. Following a playing career that saw him spend one season with the then-professional Sioux City Musketeers, Ferguson became a career coach and spent 18 years in the USHL. He was named the head coach and general manager of the Sioux City Musketeers in 1981 and stayed there until 1990. During his tenure in Sioux City, Ferguson won two Anderson Cups (1982, 1986), two Clark Cups (1982, 1986) to go along with the 1986 Junior "A" National Championship. He left as the all-time wins leader for the Musketeers, a total that was just recently surpassed by Dave Siciliano.

The week that was:
Tuesday, February 13, Augusta Lynx 1 @ Florida Everblades 5
Despite the best efforts of goaltender #1 Gerald Coleman, the Augusta Lynx fell for the second straight game to the Florida Everblades on Tuesday night by a score of 5-1. For the second straight night, it was Florida dominating early pumping 18 shots on Coleman. The first goal of the game, which has eluded the Lynx during the three-game series came on former Lynx JB Bittner's shorthanded breakaway goal. The Everblades opened it up in the 2nd period with goals from Derek Damon, Brandon Roach and Brett Peterson. All were even strength and often times after Coleman had made some spectacular saves. Just 1:20 into the period heavyweights #6 Will Bodine and Brad Brown squared off in a tilt. The fight however did not charge up the Lynx who were down 4-0 after two periods. The Everblades made it 5-0 early in the 3rd period as Jaret Lukin scored on a backdoor pass. Bodine again engaged in another fight, this time with Ryan Van Buskirk, and seconds later #17 Jeremy Schenderling dropped gloves with Mike McLean. The Lynx spoiled the shutout of Justin Peters with a goal from #25 Adrian Veideman, who received a pass from #21 Bobby Bolt, fired a shot on goal which was kicked aside by Peters, but the puck went directly off his defenseman and into the back of the net for the lone Lynx marker of the night. Coleman faced a season-high 45 shots in the game and turned aside 40.
