February 18, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones put their twelve game winning streak on the line this week with three North Division games at U.S. Bank Arena. Thursday (Feb. 21), Dayton visits for a 7:30pm tilt on a 'Thirsty Thursday'--with selected twelve ounce beers priced at one dollar all night. Friday (Feb. 22), it is 'Faith Night' as Johnstown comes to town. Christian band "Storyside B' will be performing an in-game concert. Saturday (Feb. 23), Elmira tries to narrow the gap with the division leaders.

ROLLING ON: The Cyclones have won a club record twelve consecutive decisions. Cincinnati, which has not lost a game since January 13 at Reading, is 12-0 since and has outscored the opposition, 48-18, during that stretch. The winning streak began, coincidently, with the start of the second half of the season and during this run the club has converted 18 of its 64 power play chances (28.1 percent). Six of the twelve wins have been of the come-from-behind variety. The Cyclones 'magic number' for clinching a playoff berth is eight.

GO LONG...: A Cyclones win on Thursday over Dayton would be the 13th consecutive win for the club. Cincinnati is tied with Texas and South Carolina for the longest winning streak in the ECHL this season. In 2006-07, Las Vegas assembled a league-long 13 game winning streak. The ECHL record for longest winning streak in one regular season is 14 set by Knoxville (1992-93) and Louisiana (2001-02).

ABOUT SATURDAY...: The Cyclones collected 48 saves from Dov Grumet-Morris in a 5-1 win at Elmira. A pair of shorthanded goals opened a three goal explosion in the third period and pointed Cincinnati toward the win.

ABOUT FRIDAY NIGHT...: The Cyclones exploded for five power play goals in a 7-0 blanking of Trenton. Three first period power play goals opened the floodgates, as the Cyclones got two goals from Matt Syroczynski and three assist games from Scott Reynolds and Cory Urquhart.

ABOUT WEDNESDAY...: A pair of goals from Cory Urquhart, including one early in the third period were enough for a 3-2 win over Dayton. The triumph clinched at least a share of the season series with the Bombers. Travis Fuller netted the other score on a backhanded shot in the first period. Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 28 shots in taking his 19th win of the campaign.

CEDRICK THE SENSATIONAL: Cyclones goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped all 39 shots in the 7-0 win at Trenton Friday night. Desjardins turned in his fifth shutout of the season, the most in the ECHL. Cedrick had his goals against average dip to 1.91, best in the ECHL and his save percentage of .935 also leads the circuit.

THEY ARE CATCHING ON: The Cyclones drew 5871 for last Saturday's game against Mississippi, the fourth time this season that the club has exceeded 5000 in attendance for a game--three of these have happened since the start of the new calendar year. U.S. Bank Arena has had an average of 2249 check out the Cyclones through 25 home dates, an increase of 39.7 percent in attendance through an equal number of dates from a year ago. The last time the Cyclones had five or more crowds of 5000 in a season was back during 2002-03, when the club had it happen eight times. In the nine games at U.S. Bank Arena since January 1, the Cyclones are averaging 3246 fans per contest.

DESHARNAIS SHINES: Cyclones rookie forward David Desharnais has enjoyed his first pro season. After signing with the Cyclones prior to the season, Desharnais was invited to Hamilton's training camp. He was later signed by the Bulldogs and re-assigned to Cincinnati. David presently leads the ECHL in scoring among rookies with 60 (14-46-60). He represented Cincinnati at the 2008 Rbk ECHL All-Star Game and had an assist in the contest. Since Dec. 31, Desharnais has a 17-game point scoring streak, netting 27 points during that span (3-24-27). David has a team-best fifteen-game assist streak running currently (2-21-23). Desharnais' 17-game point streak is the longest in the ECHL this season and the longest since Scott Mifsud of Gwinnett assembled a 19-game stretch last season.

COMEBACK KIDS: The win over Dayton last Wednesday night, marked the sixteenth come-from-behind victory this club has pulled off this season. Last year, the club rallied 13 times to win games. This season, the Cyclones have rallied to win four times when trailing by two goals. All three overtime/shootout losses suffered by the team have been rallies as well. Altogether, Cincinnati has earned 35 points in the standings after it has trailed in a game.

FOURTEEN, FIFTEEN, SIXTEEN...: The Cyclones are riding a club record 16 game home unbeaten in regulation string (14-0-2). The run surpasses the eleven game stretch, set last year from Nov. 18 through Jan. 6 with a 9-0-2 mark. Cincinnati has not lost a game in regulation time at U.S. Bank Arena since Nov. 24, when Dayton beat the Cyclones, 4-2. The team is 19-3-3 (.788) at home.

GRUMET-MORRIS STANDS TALL: Cyclones goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris has won his last six starts and is 18-1-1 in his last 20 decisions. Since that stretch started on November 4, Grumet-Morris has a 2.34 goals against average and a .918 save percentage in those decisions. For the season, Dov has the second-most wins in the league and holds a 20-3-1 record, a 2.37 goals against average (seventh-best in the league) and a .914 save percentage.

THAT MAKES ZERO SENSE: The Cyclones are 23-8-1 when scoring the first goal of a game. They have an even more impressive 14-0-2 mark when they ALLOW the first goal of a game. Trailing a game, 2-0, Cincinnati is 4-0-0 in those situations as well. The club has not trailed 3-0 in a game this season.

TWENTY-NINE OVER!: With the twelve game winning streak, the Cyclones are 29 games above .500 for the first time in team history. The last time a Cincinnati pro hockey team was 29 games above break even was at the end of the 1995-96 season when the IHL's Cyclones finished 29 games above .500, at 51-22-9 (.677 winning percentage). The last time a Cincinnati pro sports team was 30 games over .500 was the 1999 Cincinnati Reds on October 3, when the club had a 96-66 record before its one game playoff with the New York Mets.

ON A ROLL!: The Cyclones are the only ECHL team to have a better than .500 record against every team it has played this season. Cincinnati has played nine different opponents in 2007-08 and has at least one more win than loss against all of them.

WE'RE ONLY AT HOME WHEN WE'RE ON THE ROAD...: The Cyclones are 18-5 (.783 winning percentage) away from U.S. Bank Arena this season. Since Nov. 13 at Dayton, the Cyclones are 15-3 (.833) away from home.

WE ARE QUITE OFFENSIVE: The Cyclones have scored an ECHL-high 199 goals. Cincinnati is averaging 4.15 goals per game, the most in the ECHL. The club has also posted five games in which it has netted eight goals--which sets a team-record for most games with eight or more goals in a season.

GUNNING FOR 38 WINS!: The Cyclones picked up their 37th win of the season Saturday night at Elmira--setting a club record for earliest, and fastest, to the plateau. Previously, the 1995-96 Louisville squad had 37 wins on March 14 to establish both records. The club record for wins is 39 set by the 1995-96 Louisville squad.

SHATTER THIS!: The Cincinnati Cyclones won more games than ever prior to the All-Star break. The club was 21-13-3 at the All-Star break in 2006-07. Cincinnati was 26-8-3 this year. By February 18 of last season, the club already registered 18 losses. Since the All-Star Game, Cincinnati is 11-0.
