Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN - Curt Smith finished a double shy of the cycle and John James dealt seven superb innings to lead the Saltdogs to a 7-1 win over the Shreveport-Bossier Captains in front of 3,578 fans at Haymarket Park Friday night.

Smith drove in the first of four Lincoln runs in the bottom of the first frame. Pat Trettel, Brandon Jones and Joe Ramos each contributed RBIs in the opening inning as well.

Leading 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Smith led off the frame with a massive solo home run to left, his third of the year.

The Captains tallied an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning but then James navigated out of a bases loaded, one-out jam to minimize the damage.

The 'Dogs got the run right back in the bottom-half. Smith spanked a broken-bat triple that one-hopped the wall in left center, and came in to score on a Robby Alcombrack single to left.

James (4-1) pitched seven innings, allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out four and walking three to earn the win. Ryan DiPietro (5-1) lasted four-plus innings, allowing five earned on eight hits to take the loss.

Smith went 4-for-5 with a home run, a triple and four runs scored. Ramos was 2-for-4 with two, two-out RBI singles and Phil Hawke finished with two hits as well.

The teams meet again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. for game two of the three-game series. Tommy Palica (2-0, 3.08) is scheduled to start for the 'Dogs against Richard Salazar (1-2, 5.40) for the Caps.

June 11 is a Super Saturday at Haymarket Park, and the first 1,000 fans through the gate receive a Nebraska Lottery Saltdogs Bandana. For team and ticket information please call 402-474-BALL or visit www.saltdogs.com.
