
Elliott, De La Garza lift Sox over Cats 7-3

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox got seven strong innings from starter Matt Elliott and got three RBI from Adam De La Garza to help them defeat the Fort Worth Cats 7-3 on Friday night in front of 2,659 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.
Elliott (3-1) allowed only three runs and seven hits while walking only one and striking out nine. Cats starter Mike Bacsik (1-2) got the loss, allowing four runs in five innings of work.
The Cats took a third inning lead as Derek Kinzler walked, stole second and scored on a Travis Metcalf RBI single. The Sox responded in the bottom half as Fehlandt Lentini walked and went to third on a Matt Tucker single. Cyle Hankerd grounded out to second, but scored Lentini and sent Tucker to second base. Lee Cruz followed with an RBI single to give Amarillo a 2-1 lead.
Fort Worth took the lead again in the fifth inning as Brian Fryer singled, stole second and scored on a Cory Morales RBI single. Metcalf followed with a double down the left field line to score Morales from first to give the Cats 3-2 lead.
Amarillo took the lead for good in the sixth inning. Cruz led off with a single and went to second on a Tim Alberts walk. With two outs, De La Garza doubled down the right field line to score both runners and give the Sox a 4-3 advantage.
The Sox added some insurance as Benji Johnson singled and scored on a De La Garza RBI double. Jason White followed with an RBI single to score De La Garza, while Lentini tripled to score White for a four-run lead.
Amarillo reliever Gary Perinar came in for the ninth, allowed a leadoff walk, but struck out the last batter to finish the game with the Sox victorious 7-3.
With the win, the Sox improve to 10-16 while the Cats fall to 12-15. Saturday, Amarillo will take on Fort Worth for the second game of a three-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm.
