Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN - Lincoln evened the score following an hour-plus rain delay in the bottom of the eighth but the Winnipeg Goldeyes tallied two in the 11th to top the Saltdogs 5-4 at Haymarket Park Thursday night. The two clubs, meeting for the first time since 2005, split the four-game series.

The 'Dogs trailed 3-1 when strong rain showers halted play for 63 minutes in the bottom of the eighth inning. After play resumed, Lincoln evened the score on a Gavin Dickey two-out RBI single and a Robby Alcombrack run-scoring hit.

Both clubs had opportunities with runners in scoring position the next couple frames and Winnipeg broke through with two runs off Lincoln closer PJ Zocchi in the top of the 11th, the first runs Zocchi has allowed in a meaningful situation all season.

Blake Gailen produced an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning, but the Goldeyes ended the game on a strike 'em out-throw 'em out double play to salvage the series split.

Ian Thomas (4-1) pitched two innings in relief, allowing no runs on two hits to earn the win. Zocchi (0-1) gave up two in two innings to suffer the loss. Chad Benefield recorded the final two outs to book his first save.

Lindsay Gulin started the game for the 'Dogs, going seven innings, allowing three runs - two earned - on seven hits while striking out four and walking four.

Dickey, playing in his first game since straining his hamstring Monday night, finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI.

The Saltdogs open a weekend series with defending champion Shreveport-Bossier Friday night at 7:05 p.m. John James (3-1, 7.48) is expected to make the start against Ryan DiPietro (5-0, 2.94) for the Captains.
