Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

EL PASO, Texas -- The Grand Prairie AirHogs offense exploded on Friday night as they scored a season-high 18 runs, matched a season-high with 19 hits, as all nine hitters had at least one hit and one run scored and eight had at least RBIs in an 18-2 thrashing of the El Paso Diablos at Cohen Stadium.

After a scoreless first inning, the AirHogs (18-9) got the onslaught going in the second, with two hits and a walk to load the bases. With one out, David Espinosa opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly, and David Thomas tripled to bring in two more, before he scored on a passed ball to make it 4-0.

Jason Jennings (3-1) allowed the Diablos (9-18) to slice the lead in half in the third, with four straight hits to open the inning and make it 4-2. But the righthander left the bases loaded in that inning and stranded two more runners in the fourth - and El Paso only had one hit and two baserunners (both in the ninth inning) after that.

The AirHogs went back to work with the bats in the fourth, getting nine straight one-out baserunners to chase Scott Vander Weg (2-1) and turn the 4-2 lead into 11-2, scoring seven times on six hits, two walks and a hit batter in a 12-man frame.

Jake Taylor capped off a four-run fifth with a two-run homer to dead center, his second home run in three games and second of his career, and Grand Prairie got three more on four hits and two walks in the seventh to finish the scoring.

Jennings retired the final 10 men he faced with five of his season-high eight strikeouts, and Jon Fulton overpowered the Diablos by striking out the side in the eighth. He also struck out one more in the ninth, surviving a double and a walk to keep El Paso off the board in the final frame as the AirHogs won their third in a row and seventh straight on the road.
