Isotopes Crush New Orleans 11-1 to Split Series

NEED TO KNOW: Fireworks weren't on the promotional schedule, but the Albuquerque Isotopes (32-39) put on their own fireworks show in an 11-1 thumping of the New Orleans Zephyrs (38-33) Monday afternoon at Isotopes Park. The win saved a series split for the Isotopes.

THE TURNING POINT: It was over almost as soon as it started. The Zephyrs picked up a run in the first after former Isotopes outfielder Matt Angle doubled to lead off the game. Albuquerque would also strike quickly in the bottom of the first after Trayvon Robinson gave the Topes a leadoff double of their own. Consecutive singles from Joc Pederson, Clint Robinson, Tim Federowicz and Aled Liddi then gave the Isotopes a 4-1 lead.

KEEP PILING THEM ON: Albuquerque added two more runs in the second inning courtesy of a Tim Federowicz home run. After two more runs scored in the fifth inning, Clint Robinson mashed a two-run homer in sixth to push the Isotopes lead to 10-1.Robinson also walked to leadoff the bottom of the eighth inning and scored on an Alex Liddi double for the Isotopes 11th run.

C. ROB HIT, C. ROB DRIVE IN RUNS: Clint Robinson turned in a 3-for-4 afternoon, including a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. He has five home runs in his last 11 games and 19 RBI in his last 18 games. One games shy of the halfway point this season, Robinson has 50 RBI, which is on pace for 101 RBI for the season. Robinson's career high was 100 RBI in 2011 for Triple-A Omaha, and he also drove in 98 runs for Double-A NW Arkansas in 2010.

NO FREEBIES FROM FRIAS: Albuquerque's starting pitcher Carlos Frias tossed a gem to help even the series for the Isotopes. He lasted eight innings, allowingjust one run on four hits. He struck out a season-high 10 batters without awalk. It is the second time this season Frias has not surrendered a walk while pitching into the seventh inning. The eight innings pitched is a new seasonhigh for the Isotopes, while the 10 strikeouts matched a season-most.

ON DECK: The Isotopes hit the road for a four-game series at the Omaha Storm Chasers beginning Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. MT. Right-hander Red Patterson (3-5, 4.26 ERA) will get the start for Albuquerque, and left-hander John Lamb (3-5, 3.80 ERA) will go for Omaha.

IN THE HOLE: Following the four-game set Omaha, the Isotopes continue their eight-game road trip with a stop in Iowa to face the Cubs.
