Omaha Finishes Fantastic Road Trip with a Win

Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Fresno, CA - Christian Colon drove in three runs while Paulo Orlando, Brett Eibner and Whit Merrifield each contributed three hits in a 15-hit attack, as Omaha overcame a somewhat sloppy start to down Fresno, 10-7, Sunday night to complete a four-game series sweep at Chukchansi Park. The Storm Chasers wound up going 7-1 against Sacramento and the Grizzlies and return home with a 40-31 record and two game edge on Oklahoma City in the American Conference North Division.

The teams traded runs in the first four half innings like they did in the opener of the series on Friday. Omaha managed a lone marker in the first but left the bases loaded with nobody out before the Grizzlies countered with three in their half, the last two coming on Adam Duvall's league-leading 21st home run, the first allowed by the visitors in their last 10 road games. The Chasers then tallied five times in the second, highlighted by a run-scoring hit from Orlando and a two-out, two-run single by Eibner that knocked Fresno starter Mike Kickham out of the game after he had recorded only five outs. The hosts then rallied for three more to get the tied in the home half on a two-run double from Gary Brown and a Joe Panik RBI ground out.

Nick Noonan led off the fourth with a double and scored on a base hit by Darren Ford that put Fresno back in front, 7-6. The lead didn't last very long in the see-saw contest, as Colon doubled in the fifth to knock in two runs, knock out reliever Jorge Bucardo and put the Chasers on back on top to stay at 8-7 before he would come in to score on a two-out base hit by Jason Maxwell.

Aaron Brooks lasted five frames and grabbed the win after he allowed four earned runs on seven hits while fanning seven. Casey Coleman took over and yielded one hit over 2 2/3 scoreless frames before giving way to Spencer Patton, who worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth to strike out Mark Minicozzi and Duvall to end the game and earn his league-leading 14th save.

The Chasers return home Tuesday night with left-hander John Lamb taking the hill against Albuquerque right-hander Red Patterson. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
