
C Federowicz, RHP Abreu Join Isotopes

Catcher Tim Federowicz and right-handed pitcher Juan Abreu joined the Albuquerque Isotopes this morning. In corresponding moves, catcher John Cannon was placed on thedisabled list with a right ankle sprain, and right-handed pitcher Josh Judy was placed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation.
Federowicz returns to Albuquerque for his third stint with the Isotopes this season. The 26-year-old catcher was on the Topes Opening Day roster and played in the season-opener at Tacoma before being recalled to Los Angeles in place of aninjured A.J. Ellis. He returned to Albuquerque on May 3 but was recalled once again on May 26. In 17 games with the Isotopes this year, Federowicz is betting .298 with four doubles, a home run and six RBI. In 18 games with the Dodgers, he is batting .131 with three doubles, one home run and five RBI.
Abreu was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Kansas City Royals in 2003. In 2009, he signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Braves before being traded to the Houston Astros in 2011. He made his Major League debut later that season onAug. 29, 2011, tossing one inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In total,Abreu has appeared in seven Major League games with a 2.70 ERA. In seven Minor League seasons, he claims a 26-22 record with a 4.65 ERA, including 464 strikeouts in 387.0 innings pitched.
Cannon appeared in three games with Albuquerque from April 8 through May 15 before being sent to Extended Spring Training. He earned a start behind the plate May 1 against Salt Lake, going1-for-3. A day later he took the mound in relief, tossing two innings of two-hit, one-run ball. He also struck out two and walked one. The 24-year-old backstop has recorded two pinch-hit singles this season: one against El Paso on May 13 and another against New Orleans on June 15. He is a combined 4-for-7with a run scored this season.
Judy has made 23 relief appearances for the Isotopes this season with a 2-2 record and 5.79 ERA. In 28.0 innings, he's walked only eight against 24 strikeouts. Judy injured his right elbow Sunday night 10th inning against the New Orleans Zephyrs.
