FIRST-PLACE Z'S OPEN HOMESTAND TUESDAY
Metairie, LA - On the strength of another winning road trip, the New Orleans Zephyrs return home on Tuesday to open an eight-game homestand sitting atop their division for the first time in 2014.
With five wins in eight games in El Paso and Albuquerque, the Zephyrs moved into first place in their division for the first time since April 2012. The offense has caught fire in June, slugging a Pacific Coast League-leading 28 home runs in the month, six more than any other team. Second baseman Derek Dietrich has homered five times in his first nine Triple-A games since being optioned from the Miami Marlins.
The pitching probables for the series against Fresno:
Tuesday 7 PM: TBA vs. RHP Chris Heston (6-3, 3.88)
Wednesday 7 PM: RHP Elih Villanueva (6-2, 2.63) vs. RHP Mitch Lively (4-3, 5.75)
Thursday 7 PM: LHP Brad Hand (1-0, 1.50) vs. LHP Edwin Escobar (3-6, 5.26)
Friday 7 PM: RHP Alex Sanabia (2-2, 5.63) vs. RHP Jason Berken (7-6, 4.80)
A four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies, with all games starting at 7 p.m., begins with a 2-for-1 ticket offer on Tuesday night, and followers of the Zephyrs' social media sites will be alerted to the special for Web Wednesday. Thirsty Thursday, sponsored by Budweiser, returns with $1 draft beers and Pepsi products, as well as craft beer sampling on the concourse. Boomtown Casino Boom Night comes with a theme from a galaxy far, far away as Friday is Star Wars Night. The first 1,000 fans will receive a light saber, courtesy of Uptown Solar, and fans can meet Star Wars characters such as Darth Vader and Stormtroopers from the 501st Legion Degaboda Base. Discounted $5 admission will be available to all fans wearing Star Wars merchandise to the game.
The Sacramento River Cats come to town for a four-game set beginning Saturday at 6 p.m. with Baseball Bingo, offering fans a chance to win prizes from Treasure Chest Casino. After the game, one lucky couple will be married on the mound, and get the first dance from the postgame concert with 90 Degrees West. Join the Zephyrs in celebrating Boudreaux's birthday on Sunday at 1 p.m., offering $5 admission for kids along with birthday cake, inflatables on the plaza and running the bases postgame.
