Tacoma Rainiers News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tacoma Rainiers completed a four-game series sweep of the Nashville Sounds with a 9-0 shutout victory at Greer Stadium on Monday night.
Starter Andrew Carraway (3-4) starred from the mound for Tacoma after holding the Sounds to six hits in a season-high 6.0 innings of work. The right-hander struck out two and walked one on the way to collecting his third win in his team-leading 13th turn in the Rainiers rotation. Relievers Brandon Maurer (1.0) and Carson Smith (1.0) sealed Tacoma's fifth consecutive win after limiting Nashville to one hit over the game's final two frames.
Tacoma initially took the lead after posting three runs in the top of the second inning. Ty Kelly was the first player to put the Rainiers on the scoreboard after a fielding error plated the infielder with one out. Abraham Almonte tripled the lead with a two-run double one out later.
After Xavier Nady's two-run single in the sixth inning stretched the Rainiers advantage to 5-0, Tacoma tacked on four more runs in the top of the seventh. Gabriel Noriega delivered a two-run double and Humberto Quintero lined an RBI single before Taylor capped off the frame with ground out that drove in one more.
The infielder Noriega led a Rainiers lineup that collected a combined 11 hits after going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Almonte, Nady, Quintero and Ji-Man Choi each chipped multi-hit efforts, with each collecting two hits in the series finale at Nashville. Outfielder Jabari Blash had his season-high ten-game hitting streak snapped after going 0-for-4 with a run scored.
The Rainiers (31-39) look to stretch their winning to six games when they open an eight-game homestand at 6:05 p.m. tomorrow, June 17. Right-hander Jordan Pries (4-5, 2.62) is expected to start for Tacoma in the first game of a four-game series against Colorado Springs. Left-hander Yohan Flande (2-9, 4.82) will get the start for the Sky Sox.
