Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Pacific Coast League announced Monday that CF Jared Hoying of the Round Rock Express has been named the league's Player of the Week for June 9-15. LHP Ryan Verdugo of the Omaha Storm Chasers earned PCL Pitcher of the Week honors.
Hoying batted .464 (13-for-28) for the week, leading Round Rock to an impressive six-game winning streak on the road. The center fielder recorded two home runs and two triples in his last seven games, while collecting 10 RBI, 10 runs and three stolen bases. On June 11, Hoying turned in the first four-hit performance of his Triple-A career, going 4-5 with three RBI in a win at Albuquerque.
The 25-year old Ohio native is hitting .245 (58-for-237) with three triples, 12 home runs, 40 RBI and a .477 slugging percentage this season, all of which are tops among active Express players.
The Rangers selected Hoying in the 10th round of the 2010 first-year player draft out of the University of Toledo where he earned second-team All Mid-American Conference honors. Hoying hit .289 (70-for-242) in his final season with 14 homers, 53 RBI and 13 steals to be considered among the conference's top pro prospects.
Hoying is the first player from Round Rock to be named the league's player of the week this season and the second to win one of the league's weekly awards as RHP Nick Tepesch received pitcher of the week honors back in April.
The E-Train returns to Dell Diamond on Tuesday, June 17 to begin an eight-game homestand. They will first welcome the Sacramento River Cats (Oakland Athletics affiliate) to Round Rock for a four-game series before playing four more games with the Fresno Grizzlies (San Francisco Giants).
