Oklahoma City - Nick Tropeano pitched seven scoreless innings, while Kiké Hernandez and Ronny Torreyes each tallied four hits to lead the Oklahoma City RedHawks in a 5-1 win against the Las Vegas 51s Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The win in front of a crowd of 3,637 secured Oklahoma City's first season series win against Las Vegas since 2006.
The victory also gave the RedHawks (39-33) their second home series win of the season, as they finished the homestand with a 5-3 record.
Tropeano (5-4) retired the first nine batters he faced. He went on to throw seven scoreless innings and held the 51s to two hits. He walked one and struck out six in the win.
The RedHawks built a 5-0 lead as they went on to outhit Las Vegas, 15-5, as they reached the halfway mark of the season.
Gregorio Petit homered on a fly ball down the third base line that dropped into the alley beyond left field for a 1-0 RedHawks lead in the third inning.
Petit extended his hitting streak to nine games with his third home run in the past four games. The RedHawks have now homered in six straight games.
Torreyes followed with a single, then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Austin Wates. Torreyes scored on a single by Hernandez for a 2-0 RedHawks lead in the third.
Max Stassi doubled with one out in the fourth inning. He then scored on a RBI single by L.J. Hoes. Torreyes added a RBI single with two outs for a 4-0 Oklahoma City edge.
The RedHawks had a chance to extend their lead in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases, but Matt Duffy popped out and Stassi grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Oklahoma City added a run in the seventh inning. Domingo Santana reached on a missed catch error by Las Vegas pitcher Zack Thornton at first base and Hernandez scored for a 5-0 lead.
The 51s (40-31) broke up the shutout in the top of the ninth when Josh Satin connected on a RBI single with two outs.
Preston Tucker collected two hits for his first multi-hit game with the RedHawks. Hoes also finished the night with two hits for his fifth straight multi-hit game.
The RedHawks next travel west as they continue a stretch of 16 straight games against Pacific Conference opponents. The RedHawks play four games in Reno starting at 9:05 p.m. Central time Tuesday before traveling for a four-game set at Tacoma that starts Saturday.
