June 16, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Sky Sox (29-41) couldn't come up with a series split in the homestand finale as they lost, 7-5, to the Salt Lake City Bees (29-43) on Monday afternoon.

Both teams tacked on a three spot right away in the first inning. Trailing 3-0 already in the the first, the Sox attacked right back when 2B Angelys Nina hit an RBI-single, which was followed up by a game-tying, two-run single from C Jackson Williams.

RHP Brett Tomko only lasted two-thirds of an inning in his second start with the Sky Sox after loading the bases with two outs. RHP Greg Burke came in relief to get the final out of the inning, but at the same time allowed two of Tomko's unearned runs to score when 1B Tim Smalling made an error. Smalling made up for it on the same play, throwing out 3B Luis Jimenez trying to score from first.

The Sox took a 5-3 lead in the third with an RBI-single from Williams - his third run driven in on the day - and an RBI-single from CF Delta Cleary.

Burke went on to turn in a solid 4.1 innings of work, allowing just one run on a solo-blast from DH Brennan Boesch to lead off the fourth.

However, the Sky Sox surrendered the lead in the sixth with RHP Wilton Lopez (0-2) on the rubber. Lopez gave up back-to-back doubles to start the sixth inning and an RBI-single three batters later to LF Zach Borenstein.

The Bees added an insurance run in the eighth with an RBI-single from Jimenez.

The Bees' Justin Thomas (4-6) and their bullpen held the Sky Sox scoreless over the final six frames.

The Sky Sox will begin an eight-game road trip on Tuesday when they travel to Tacoma for four games. LHP Yohan Flande (2-9, 4.82 ERA) will get the start for the Sox, while RHP Jordan Pries (4-5, 4.62 ERA) takes the mound for the Rainiers. First pitch will be at 6:05 p.m. (PT)

SOX NOTES With his two-hits on Monday, Rafael Ynoa now has five multi-hit affairs in his last 10 games, and seven multi-hit games in June, improving his season average to .272 (40-for-147). He had five multi-hit games in the first two months.
