Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - After falling behind 5-0, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (32-30) rallied all the way back to tie the game but ultimately lost 8-7 to the Toledo Mud Hens (27-36) on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Toledo started the game with a bang, homering three times within the first two innings. Parker Meadows and Justyn-Henry Malloy went back-to-back to kick off the ball game and Michael Papierski stroked a two-trun homer in the second to make it 4-0 Mud Hens.
Andre Lipcius led off the third with a double for Toledo and came around later in the inning on a Joe Rizzo RBI double.
The IronPigs made their move in the fifth. Weston Wilson tripled to start the frame and Cristian Pache singled him home. With runners at first and second and two outs, Jim Haley beat out an infield single that coaxed a throwing error allowing a run to score. Jake Cave followed with a two-run single to make it a one-run game.
Tyler Nevin doubled to begin the seventh for Toledo and Nick Solak followed with another two-bagger to drive in Nevin. Two outs and a walk later, Papierski poked an RBI single back up the middle to drive in Solak and make it 7-4 Mud Hens.
The IronPigs roared all the way back in the eighth. With two on and two out, Cristian Pache pummeled a three-run homer, his first of the season, to tie the game at 7-7.
The deadlock was short-lived as another Rizzo RBI single put Toledo ahead, 8-7, for good in the top of the ninth.
Matt Wisler (4-0) backed into the win for the Mud Hens after allowing Pache's three-run homer. He went two innings, allowing those three runs on two hits and a walk, striking out three. Sam Clay (S, 1) worked a scoreless ninth, striking out two for the save.
Jace Vines (0-1) was hung with the loss for the IronPigs, allowing an unearned run in the ninth on two hits and a walk, striking out one.
The IronPigs and Mud Hens continue their series on Wednesday, June 14 with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park.
