Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, NEB. - The Omaha Storm Chasers won a sixth straight game Tuesday, taking the series opener against the Columbus Clippers 6-5 at Werner Park, as the Chasers scored all six runs over the final three innings.

Omaha starting pitcher Jonathan Heasley delivered his third quality start of the season on the mound, holding Columbus to just two runs over 6.0 innings. Heasley allowed a two-run homer with one out in the top of the first, then kept the Clippers to three hits and two walks through the rest of his outing, while striking out four.

Heasley didn't receive any run support until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Samad Taylor crushed a solo home run to left center, his fifth long ball of the season, cutting what had been a 2-0 deficit for over half the game to just a one-run game, 2-1.

With two runs in the bottom of the seventh and still down by a run, the Chasers rallied with a walk and hit batter to put the go-ahead run on. In his 2023 Chasers debut, John Rave drove both Brewer Hicklen and Jakson Reetz in with a two-run double, then came home to score on an Angelo Castellano single for a 4-2 lead at the end of the seventh. Adding a single and steal after Castellano in the seventh, Taylor finished the day 3-for-3 and reached base in all four plate appearances.

After Dylan Coleman fired a scoreless seventh inning with a pair of strikeouts, Columbus quickly stormed back against Evan Sisk and Collin Snider (4-1), scoring two runs charged to Sisk and one off of Snider to jump back ahead, 5-4. Sisk allowed a walk and single, then Snider allowed a pair of walks and hits, notably a go-ahead two-run double.

After a leadoff walk to Tyler Gentry was erased on a flyout double play in the bottom of the eight, Logan Porter drew a two-out walk, then Brewer Hicklen gave the Storm Chasers a lead for good with a two-run homer to left field, his fifth of the season, for the 6-5 score that held to be final.

Brooks Kriske hit his first batter of the ninth inning, but quickly settled down and struck out his next three to finish off Omaha's sixth straight win of the season.

The Chasers will try and win a seventh straight win game Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. CT, as right-hander Alec Marsh makes his 2023 Omaha debut against the Clippers at Werner Park.
