Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Bulls center fielder Ruben Cardenas clubbed two hits and drove in a run, while Knight left fielder Victor Reyes and right fielder Oscar Colas combined for six hits, two home runs and five runs driven in as Charlotte defeated Durham 10-7 on Tuesday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Reyes and Colas each drove in a run as part of the Knights' four-run first frame before another tally in the second made it 5-0. Bulls LF Ben Gamel would then get Durham on the board courtesy of an RBI single in the fourth, however Reyes and Colas crushed back-to-back home runs in the next inning to extend the advantage to 7-1.
Bulls C Blake Hunt would then bash an RBI double in the fifth prior to Cardenas' run-scoring single to narrow the deficit to four, however Charlotte brought across three more scores in the seventh to make it 10-3. Durham would make it a four-run margin once again in the eighth with a trio of tallies and would plate another run in the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, though they were unable to complete the comeback attempt.
Cardenas (2-5, R, 2B, RBI) was the lone Durham batter to record a multi-hit effort, while Hunt drove in two runs. Reyes (3-4, 3 R, HR, 3 RBI) and Colas (3-5, 3 R, 2 2B, HR, 2 RBI), meanwhile, each posted a game-high three knocks apiece.
Knights reliever Declan Cronin (0.1 IP, 1 SO) earned the victory and Bryan Shaw (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 SO) notched the save. Bulls starter Sean Hunley (5.0 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to continue their six-game series on Wednesday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. RHP Cooper Criswell (1-1, 3.38) is anticipated to get the nod for Durham and is slated to be opposed by LHP Nate Fisher (4-7, 4.91).
