Augusta Lynx News Release

Columbia, SC - Mike Jarmuth's power play goal with just 1:34 remaining in regulation tied the game and sent the Columbia Inferno to a 5-4 shootout win over the Augusta Lynx Friday night.

Jarmuth found the net after shooting the puck through traffic for an unassisted goal to force overtime, where there would be no further scoring despite several power plays for each team.

After falling behind 1-0 to open the game, Augusta responded with a pair of first period goals to grab the lead at intermission. Louis Goulet put the Lynx on the board, converting a two-on-one break with Ryan Lang less than a minute after Columia's goal, followed by Joe Pereira's power play goal at 8:37 for a 2-1 score through 20 minutes of play.

Mac Faulkner evened the game just 1:23 into the second period as a centering pass kicked off the skates of Lynx goaltender Nathan Marsters, leaving it free for Faulkner to shove home.

Augusta issued its response with a shorthanded tally at 10:31 from Mike Erickson, as the Lynx forward snuck in behind the Inferno defense and broke in alone from the blue line, sweeping the puck around the outstretched glove hand of Robert Gherson to make it 3-2.

At 11:59, Ryan Lang extended his point scoring streak to 11 games as he fed Nick Kuiper for a blast from the point that beat Gherson blocker side for a 4-2 Lynx lead.

Former Lynx Anthony Battaglia broke a 1-1 deadlock in the shootout with a goal in the fourth round to give the Inferno the victory.

Marsters finished the game with 39 saves through OT and two of four in the shootout. Gherson picked up the win with 25 saves and stopping 4-of-5 in the extra session.

Augusta returns to action on Tuesday back in Columbia for a 7:05 pm start. Pre-game coverage begins one half-hour before faceoff on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
