January 19, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that Gladiators forward Scott Mifsud has been called up to the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League. In separate transactions, the Gladiators have added defenseman Brad Fraser and forward Alex Sawruk.
Mifsud makes his first trip to the AHL of his career and becomes the 4th player to be called up to the American Hockey League this season.
In his second season with the Gladiators, Mifsud ranks second in scoring in the ECHL with 14 goals and 44 assists for 58 points in 38 games. He trails teammate Brad Schell by 16 points for the top spot in the ECHL.
Mifsud scored two of the biggest goals during the Gladiators 2006 Kelly Cup Playoff run last year. He capped the Gladiators 3-goal come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays in Game 2 of the Division Semi-Finals. Mifsud also collected the overtime game winning goal in Game 5 of the Conference Finals in Toledo to beat the Storm 3-2 sending the Gladiators to the Kelly Cup Finals.
Sawruk returns to Gwinnett after having played for the Gladiators during the 2004-05 season. The Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan native finished the 2004-05 season with the Louisiana IceGators after being traded from the Gladiators. He finished that year, his only professional season with 7 goals and 14 assists in 39 games.
Fraser appeared in a handful of games with the Gladiators during each of the last two seasons where he collected an assist. The West Bloomfield, Michigan native had his most productive year during the 2003-04 season splitting time between the Greenville Grrrowl, Texas Wildcatters and Augusta Lynx finishing the season with 5 goals and 18 assists.
Fraser and Sawruk should be in the line up for tonight's 7:35 p.m. tilt against the Florida Everblades on the Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
