Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots began the second half of the ECHL schedule on a positive note with an emotional 4-2 victory over the Texas Wildcatters on Friday night at The Hangar.

Michael Mole was outstanding in net for Pensacola turning aside 31 of 33 shots including 13 in the third period alone.

It was the Ice Pilots fourth victory in their last six starts on home ice and it snapped a six-game losing streak. The win was also the Ice Pilots 10th of the season and sixth on home ice.

The two teams will be getting use to one another this weekend, as they play twice more - tomorrow (Saturday) night at The Hangar and Sunday afternoon in Texas.

The Ice Pilots played with plenty of spirit and passion in the contest, using a suffocating style of play that shutdown the Wildcatters offensively throughout the night.

Despite being out-shot 16-7, Texas scored the lone goal of the first period when Marco Rosa was allowed to come out in front and beat goaltender Michael Mole

However, the Ice Pilots tied the game up in the second when Jason Goulet fired a puck from the side of the boards that eluded goaltender Matt Yeats. Rene Gauthier and Dallas Steward earned helpers.

In the third period, the Ice Pilots took the lead when David Wrigley netted a shorthanded marker, stealing the puck along the boards and scoring on a breakaway. Steward notched his second assist of the game.

After Texas pulled even at 2-2, the Ice Pilots went to work with two goals, less than four minutes apart. First Dallas Steward continued his outstanding night with his 10th of the season from Rob Rankin and John Hecimovic. Sergei Ogorodnikov got his sixth from Rankin to make it 4-2.

Down the stretch it was Michael Mole and the outstanding Ice Pilots defense. Texas went 0 for 8 on the power play while the Ice Pilots couldn't score on their four attempts.

The Wildcatters out-shot the Ice Pilots 34-33.

Notes: The Ice Pilots were missing Mike Wirll who was suspended by the ECHL for one game but will be back in uniform on Saturday night.
